Covid19 Quilts Display At Royal Courts of Justice

First of all we would like to say a huge thank you to the security team at The Royal Courts of Justice who gave the SHQA team the prior authority to take these photos so we could share this amazing display with you all.

These 7 Inspirational Quilts were the amazing idea of Richard Kenyon who initiated the project to bring together people who might have felt isolated in the first Covid19 Lockdown

Quilting has a rich history as a group activity, the AIDS commemorative quilts of the 1980s being just one example

Richard had also grown to realise the healing benefits of quilting, having suffered a major heart attack in 2014

Initially aimed at Junior Solicitors in his team, the project passed on by word of mouth, and the amazing contributions started arriving at Richard's House

From destinations as far as Chile and the Cayman Islands

Richard's project grew so much that roughly 150 people were involved

The Central Square represented the home to which we were all confined during lockdown

The Cross radiating out from the central square represented the electronic links between everyone.

The central panels in each quilt contains one of the six stanzas of Dr John Cooper Clarke's poem 'Arts and Crafts', which is a gently mocking homage to the spirit and tradition of amateur crafting

The resulting 7 quilts have never been exhibited together until this year. This amazing exhibition is an opportunity to remember something positive from the time of Covid19

The SHQA team spent quite a few hours just studying every single beautiful stitch of every quilt

Taking time to remember their own experiences during Covid19 and how they made quilts to commemorate this time as well

We could really see the huge love that had gone into every quilt

It truly was an inspiring few hours. Thank you Richard Kenyon for bringing everyone together during Covid to make these quilts and organising such a beautiful display
